Today, we had a chance to hike up Mount Ma'an near Pyeongtaek Lake, and the greatest highlight was the varying songs, sounds, and sights of the birds that frequent the area. Towards the end of our journey, on our way back down, we heard a call that sounded almost like laughter. Looking up, I spotted the bright orange belly of a varied tit, and I realized that this ebullient little bird was following us!
Ebullient | i-ˈbu̇l-yənt: adjective: having or showing liveliness and enthusiasm
What makes this word even more fun to use to describe that little bird is the fact that - upon looking it up - it was characterized to be tame and boisterous. It did seem to be quite the cheerful fellow. Tzu, tzu, tzu, it would call before flicking its tail and hopping along the branch. For my first sighting, it was definitely a fun one!
Ebullient | ɪbˈʊl.i.ənt: very energetic, positive, and happy
Strangely enough, had I not read this word just last night, I wouldn't have even known of its existence! It was the happiest little coincidence that I stumbled across the word while reading to my daughter before happening across the perfect moment for it to describe today.
I even shouted out to my husband as we continued down the path that, thanks to that little orange bird, I had the perfect moment to describe with my word of the day.
The book that used the word is out of the famous Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Strangely enough, I hadn't even heard of the books before my husband introduced them to me, but the author is truly an inspiration to aspiring writers like myself. His stories have a serious quality to them that I can respect as an adult, but they are so lively and fun that they are also perfect for kids. This is why I always have a Redwall book ready to read to my daughter at bedtime.
An overpowering character - ebullient, quaint of speech, always in trouble, he was roguishly gallant, sentimental to a fault, and possessed a gluttonous appetite. In short, a typical hare.
-Loamhedge by Brian Jacques
The fact that Jacques regularly uses little gems like this word just gives me that much more reason to adore his works. I have so much fun reading them aloud, and they inspire me to tell all sorts of tales of good and bad.
I only hope that my next word will have that much fun appearing! Until tomorrow, happy reading!
