My husband and I always choose one weekend day to spend at home in order to recharge our batteries, do our weekly chores for our home, and take our time to just exist. Unlike most of those chosen days, we took our time waking up, giving our daughter the chance to just watch one of her favorite shows, and giving ourselves the chance to have a lackadaisical moment between us. Oh, how sweet it was.
Lackadaisical | la-kə-ˈdā-zi-kəl: adjective: lacking life, spirit, or zest: languid
For such a definition, I've always found the word, "lackadaisical" to be fun, dreamy, and full of whimsy. Of course, at the end of the day, it's just another term for being lazy. And who doesn't need a lazy day every now and then?
Lackadaisical | læk·əˈdeɪ·zɪ·kəl: adjective: lacking enthusiasm and effort
I still remember the first time I read it. I was in high school, reading what is now one of my all-time favorite novels, and I stumbled across the quote I'm about to share with you. I was happy that I carried a pocket dictionary with me because I was taken aback by such a strange word in what could be perceived as such an ordinary sentence.
Gods, how I wanted to take him back to that day in the orchard when it'd been just the three of us playing and laughing. Away to someplace where he could be free and lackadaisical, where he'd be a normal boy of nineteen as he should have been.
I used it in a college English class, as my professor was big into students coming in with fresh new words for everyone to learn. And every chance I get, I still enjoy the use of such an interesting and inspiring word.
What fun words have you read lately? I stumbled across another one while reading to my daughter tonight, and I look forward to sharing it with you tomorrow! Until then, though, happy reading.
