After a good day here in Korea in the warming spring air, watching the local farmers working their fields and the birds flitting around to catch tasty morsels, it's nice to be able to just sit back in the soft, lambent light of my eveningtime office and use my word of the day effectively.
Lambent | lam-bənt: adjective: playing lightly on or over a surface, flickering; softly bright or radiant
Such an intriguing word, lambent. Used to describe all sorts of things, from firelight to a facial expression, gentle and brilliant in how it resonates in the air.
Lambent | læm.bənt: adjective: shining gently
Knowing me, I would most likely use this to describe starlight or the burning embers left by a dying fire. Perhaps the gentle glow of a crescent moon or the expression my daughter makes when she's staring off into the distance.
Or maybe just a dragon.
Good thing I have just such a book that describes a dragon as lambent.
It moved as if it were sinking through water. A banner of scarred, iridescent green. A bladder-shaped organ dominated its head, glowing lambent blue. The same glow throbbed under its scales.
A Lacustrine dragon.
What I love about this particular use of the word is that it feels very otherworldly. It's a picturesque description that helps form a beautiful image of a dragon I had never even heard of before. Which, in my book, is a pretty big deal.
I love the added challenge of finding these words in books I have read or will be reading. It makes me even more excited to find more words and show them off. And it gives my readers the added benefit of potentially growing your library! Bonus points, am I right?
Anyway, that's all I have for today. Until the word of tomorrow comes, happy reading!
